Getting the tool ready.
When you need this
An application closes tonight, the only computer you have is your phone, and there is no Word on it. Or there is, and it wants you to sign in before it will let you save anything. You can type the letter here and get a clean A4 PDF out, which is the format almost every application wants anyway.
How to use it
- Type or paste what you need — a cover letter, a CV, a notice, a request for leave.
- Keep the structure simple: a heading, paragraphs, and short lines for contact details.
- Save as PDF, then open it and read it once before sending.
What it does and does not do
- It produces a plain, correct A4 document. Sensible margins, readable type, text that stays text so it can be searched and copied.
- It is not a page designer. No columns, no logos, no tables, no fonts to choose. For most letters and CVs in Ghana this is exactly right; a designed layout is not what gets a job application read.
- Nothing is saved on this site. Close the page and what you typed is gone, so copy anything you might want again into your notes app first.
- It handles Twi, Ewe, Ga and Dagbani letters such as ɛ and ɔ.
Writing a CV that gets read
- Name and contact details at the top. One phone number that is switched on, and an email address that is your name rather than a nickname.
- Work history with the most recent first, with the month and year for each. Gaps are normal; unexplained vagueness is not.
- Keep it to two pages. The person reading it has a stack of them.
- Save the file under your own name, not
cv.pdf.kwame-mensah-cv.pdfis what the person on the other end wants to find in their downloads folder three weeks later.
If something goes wrong
- You need to sign it. Save the PDF, then use sign or write on a PDF.
- You need it as a Word file instead. Save it here, then use turn a PDF into Word.
- You lost what you typed. Nothing is stored here, by design. Type long documents in your notes app and paste them in.
