Passport photo, Ghana size

Correct dimensions, white background, and a 4×6 sheet you can print.

This tool runs on your phone. Your file never leaves it and nothing is uploaded to us.

Pick what the photo is for, then line your face up inside the guides.

Getting the tool ready.

When you need this

Passport applications, visa forms, school and job applications, and the Ghana Card all want a photograph to a specific size on a plain background. A studio charges for a sheet and a trip. If you have decent light and somebody to hold the phone, you can produce the same thing.

How to use it

  1. Pick what the photograph is for. Different applications want different dimensions, and the tool sets them for you.
  2. Line your face up inside the guides on screen. The guides are what keep the head the right proportion of the frame, which is the part people get wrong.
  3. Save the single photograph, and the 4×6 sheet if you want prints made.

Getting a photograph that is accepted

  • Face a window. Daylight from the front, not from behind you and not from a ceiling bulb directly overhead, which puts shadows under the eyes.
  • Plain wall, light colour. Stand an arm's length away from it so you do not cast a shadow onto it. If the wall is patterned, use remove or change a photo background afterwards.
  • Neutral expression, mouth closed, both ears visible, eyes open and looking at the lens.
  • No glasses for most official applications now, and no hat unless it is worn for religious reasons every day.
  • Have somebody else hold the phone, about an arm and a half away. A selfie at arm's length distorts the face noticeably and reviewers notice it.

What it does and does not do

  • It sets the dimensions and gives you a printable 4×6 sheet. It does not judge whether the photograph meets the rules on expression, lighting or background — that is on you and on whoever reviews it.
  • Requirements do change, and different countries' visa forms differ. Check the dimensions on the form you are filling before you rely on a preset.

If something goes wrong

  • The file is too big for the form. Use fit my photo under a size limit.
  • The background is not plain enough. Use the background tool, then come back.
  • It was rejected. The usual reasons are shadow on the background, head too large or too small in the frame, and a smile. Retake rather than argue.
