Split, delete or reorder PDF pages

When you need this

A scanner gives you one long PDF when you needed three documents. A bank sends twelve months of statements and the form asks for the last three. Somebody sends a twenty-page contract and only the signature page matters. Pulling pages out of a PDF normally means paid software; it is a small job and it should not cost anything.

How to use it

1. Open the PDF. Every page is shown as a small picture so you can see what you are working with.
2. Tap the pages you want. They stay selected until you tap them again.
3. Choose what to do with them: keep only those pages, delete them, or move them.
4. Save. Your original file on the phone is untouched, so there is nothing to undo if you change your mind.

What it does and does not do

• It works on whole pages, not on the words inside them. To change what a page says you need turn a PDF into Word, or to cover something up, sign or write on a PDF.
• The pages you keep are unchanged. Text stays text and the quality is exactly what it was.
• A locked PDF has to be opened first with take the password off my PDF.
• Very long documents take a moment to show, because every page has to be drawn before you can pick it. A two-hundred page file on an old phone is slow but it does finish.

If something goes wrong

• The page pictures do not appear. The PDF is probably locked. Unlock it first.
• You deleted the wrong page. Nothing was saved over your original, so start again from the file on your phone.
• You need the pages as separate files. Keep one page, save it, then start again and keep the next. It is not elegant but it works and it takes a minute.
• The file is still too big afterwards. Removing pages helps less than you would think when the weight is in scanned images. Try make my PDF smaller.
